First Ever Golden Krust Restaurant Receives Facelift

Gun Hill Road Location Opened in 1989 Undergoes Renovation

Golden Krust Caribbean Restaurant, the largest Caribbean Restaurant Franchise chain in the United States, now has 115 locations in eight states. Our story began in 1989 with our founder Lowell Hawthorne and his siblings pooling their resources and opening the original location in the Bronx at 1381 East Gun Hill Road. This location is still going strong over 34 years later. In fact, the restaurant just reopened after extensive renovations, upgrading the interior to match newly opened restaurants.
The completely redesigned interior features ample space for customers waiting to be served in addition to a standing table for those that wish to dine-in. The new installation of the company timeline shows the journey the Hawthorne family has taken to bring the taste of the Caribbean from the hills of Jamaica to all our Golden Krust locations. With these renovations complete, Gun Hill Road is now better equipped to serve the community for at least another 34 years. We’re grateful to our customers for their support over these many years and for their patience during the time we were closed to make these renovations. To date the feedback has been that customers are blown away by the transformation of this location.

All of our food is cooked from scratch and made fresh daily, so when you dine with us, it’s like having a meal at home with family! Known for our family recipes of classic Caribbean food staples, from Jamaican beef patties and coco bread, to jerk chicken, oxtail, and curried goat or chicken. Offerings now include vegetarian alternatives. The bakery boasts numerous enticing options including spice bun, and hard dough bread (among many more delectable items).
