South Florida Celebrates Jamaica’s Rich Culture With Flavor

Warm Reception at All-Inclusive Patty Party

Golden Krust’s National Jamaican Patty Day is observed on the first Saturday in August, annually. The month of August is significant to Golden Krust, as our first restaurant opened in August of 1989 in the Bronx, New York. Jamaica celebrates Independence and Emancipation holidays in the same month. In addition to offering a BOGO promotion in store, Golden Krust kicked off Jamaica’s 61st Independence weekend in fine form with an invite-only party in South Florida at Oceans in Davie, FL.

Guests were treated to a vibrant menu carefully curated by Corporate Executive Chef Ryan Cross, featuring samples of our new Jerk Chicken Salad (which releases August 14th), and other Jamaican  tapas style delectables such as Salt Fish Ceviche, Jerk Wings, and Jerk Pork.

Guests bounced to lively music from DJ GQ (iHeart Y100), DJ MVLS, and Walshy Fire (a Jamaican member of the multi-platinum selling EDM outfit Major Lazer). They cooled off with ice-cold Coconut Juice from our budding partner, Vita Coco, the category’s industry leader. The Golden Krust brand was prominent throughout, resonating with the culture it was born out of. Festivities heightened with a surprise introduction of a stilt walker towering above the crowd with dance moves to boot.

The Golden Krust Franchisee community was strongly represented by Andrew & Michelle McKinley, Mishka Brown, Kevin and Cassandra Lee, Earl Chin (the first ever Franchisee), Troy Hawthorne, and Andre and Dorothy Green

Notable guests included Jamaican Consul General Oliver Mair, Majah Hype, White Yardie, Papa Keith (iHeart 103.5), and a large gathering of other social media influencers, food bloggers, TV Executives, and Record Producers.
